Your Why Starts With Your Authentic Self
authentic [ aw-then-tik ]adjective
1. not false or copied; genuine; real: an authentic antique.
2. having an origin supported by unquestionable evidence; authenticated; verified:
When I think about the times I’ve been unhappiest in my life, it was when I was trying to be someone else. I wasn’t being me. Really me. Either trying to fit into new school groups or sports teams or, later in life, fitting into new cities and ever-changing social circles. The feeling was the same.
It turns out that “just be yourself” is sage advice.
I’ve been a “you get what you get” type of person for most of my life, treating an eight-year-old with the same respect as the CEO of a Fortune 100 company. I speak the same way to anyone I’m in front of and, as my family would tell you, I don’t put on airs for anyone.
The Only Way to Happiness
While I didn’t realize it then, this personality trait was what had allowed me to connect with so many people from so many different walks of life. It was because I was simply myself. I was being authentic. Those who are considered authentic have taken the time, whether purposefully or by accident, to align how they act in the world with their Core Values and beliefs.
It sounds effortless, yet how many people do you know who aren’t that way at all? How many times have you found yourself out of alignment? I sure know I have.
See you on the journey…
