So here I am, Saturday morning, sun shining, looking out at the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia… writing the first post on a new blog with zero followers or subscribers of any kind.
It’s refreshing in a way.
Zero expectation.
WHY I’M HERE
It’s my intent to fill these pages with everything I’ve learned in the last 20 years of being an entrepreneur. Why most people think they are one, but aren’t, and why they’ll likely fail.
If you follow along on the socials, I have two concurrent missions. To share a few nuggets of whatever little wisdom I’ve gleaned… and to share the actual building of this business from it’s infancy… hence this first post. And I hope you’ll follow along: @milliondollarflipflops on all channels.
Without spilling my popcorn in the lobby here… over the next million posts (shoot for the stars right?) I’m going to share everything I’ve ever learned building multiple 7 figure businesses in a variety of industries.
I’ve read hundreds and hundreds of books on personal development, spent countless hours in seminars and courses, attended the best university programs and have put it all to the test…out there…in the wild.
I hope to distill all of that down and add the lens of what worked for me, for you.
I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I’M DOING
I’m not an expert. I’m not a guru. I’m a kid whose Mom helped him set up a fruit stand when he was 7 on a busy road in Temperance, Michigan, and learned the power of showing up, adding value, over-delivering, speaking to the public, and sales skills at a very young age.
That kid grew up to build much, much bigger fruit stands. (Ok, not actual fruit; but you’re picking up what I’m putting down. <—- see what I did there.)
Most importantly I was at that young age when anything, including flying with your own two arms, going to the center of the earth, and intergalactic travel were all very possible – in my mind.
If you want to unwind your mind when it comes to business. You have to think like a kid but using adult tools. It’s possible. It works. I’ve lived it.
WHAT WORKS AND WHAT DOESN’T
These are the principles and strategies I’ve developed. These are the challenges I’ve overcome in building multiple 7 figure businesses both product and service based. Brick and mortar and online. Automotive performance parts, retail home theater and car audio, a construction company, a real estate firm… the same principles applied to them all. They worked for me. They may work for you.
In the last few weeks, as I finish up my first book on the subject, I’ve interviewed dozens of people just like you and me. In my conversations with other entrepreneurs across the globe, it was uncanny how often an answer to one of my questions would touch on the concepts from nearly every chapter in the book – without them knowing what those chapters would be.
If there is anything I’ve learned from traveling the globe…48 countries and counting now… it’s that we are all, basically, the same.
It’s my hope that you can come back to these pages any time you’re feeling stuck or down or in a rut. We are all human. And as such, we all have the same fears and doubts, and struggles.
Being an entrepreneur, I feel, just amplifies those at times. It’s my hope that you’ll share this blog and the upcoming book with anyone you feel would benefit from its words. I’ve left nothing out. There are no hidden tricks or next-level items you’ll get special access to later. It’s all here at least in some basic form.
So cheers to post one, day one, hour one, minute one of our time together.
I hope we can both learn something.
See you on the journey.
