Finding Your Why – Part 4 – More Than Money or Fame

Greetings! This is part of a series… please subscribe and I’ll shoot new posts right to your inbox. No extra finger work is necessary.

**If you’re new here…welcome… you’ll want to start this one on Part One and then it will bring you back here. **

More Than Money or Fame

In my coaching practice, the first few sessions with a new client revolve heavily around 3 topics. Your WHY, your values, and your mission statements – both personal and professional. When discussing someone’s WHY behind their business – there is only one rule – the answer can’t contain wanting money, power, or notoriety.

Fun Fact: Of all the people who apply to work with me personally… approximately 2% have a personal mission statement or written values list when they arrive for the first time. In contrast, 100% of their businesses have mission statements…hmmmmm……

** In close to 300 posts between the two blogs, this is the first time I’ve used a video… was it worth it? Did it add context? ** Shoot me a note or comment below. **

Whether you’re just starting out on your entrepreneurial journey or you’re a few years into your business, and we are developing a plan to scale or exit, your answer to the question has to be something that sustains you. Can you see yourself continuing to do what you’re doing now for 5, 10, or even 20 years?

Fame and, yes, even making piles of money are both fleeting.

It’s rare that businesses, or at least the ones that succeed long-term, are born from a paycheck.

They’re born from passion, and they develop into something much deeper. Any money that comes along is a function of the value you’re adding to your fellow human beings lives, and there is rarely an exception to that rule.

Businesses that were built only to make a buck eventually sputter and die because once you have a few of those bucks, there is no more fuel in the tank to overcome the next hill. And there is always a next hill. Businesses built on sex and fancy dinners cannot thrive…ok Las Vegas withstanding!

Starting a business is relatively easy, but growing and building a business is hard. The next hill will be hard to climb. Your WHY is your fuel.

You didn’t become an entrepreneur because it was going to be easy, did you?

Stay tuned (or better yet, subscribe below) as we march together towards Part 5 – Thinking Deep, Thinking Long.

See you on the Journey…
